Mr. Louis H. Henry

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, September 16, 2011 at 11 o’clock in the morning at St. Edward Catholic Church for Mr. Louis H. Henry, 84, who passed away at his residence in New Iberia, LA on Friday, September 9, 2011 following a lengthy illness. The family requests visiting hours be observed on Thursday, September 15, 2011 beginning at 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. at Journet & Bolden Funeral Home, 711 South Corinne Street, New Iberia, LA. A Rosary service will be conducted at 7 p.m. The family will again receive visitors at the Funeral Home on Friday, September 16, 2011, beginning at 7 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial. Msg. Ronald Broussard will be the Celebrant.

Mr. Henry was born to the late Henderson and Mary Lewis Henry on September 27, 1926 in New Iberia, LA. In the 1940s he joined the United States Army. His tours of duty took him to the Philippines, the Pacific Islands and California. He received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon, Philippines Independence Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and a Victory Ribbon while serving in the United States Army. He received an Honorable Discharge after serving in World War II. Upon returning home to New Iberia, he united in marriage to the former Mary Louise Brown. To that union three children were born Peggy, Beverly and Bernadette. Prior to retiring, in 1990, he gave many years of dedicated service to Hotel Frederick, Sears & Roebuck and The Daily Iberian.

Caring for his family physically, emotionally and spiritually was always a priority. He instilled deep faith and reverence for God in his children and led by example. Mr. Louis was a faithful parishioner of St. Edward Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Peter Claver Council #63 and the American Legion Post #533. Those who had the pleasure of being in his company knew his love of music and dancing. His many occasions for bar-b-quing and cooking will always be remembered. He truly lived for his family and treasured each moment he spent with them.

Mr. Henry is survived, loved and will be missed by: His loving wife of 64 years, Mary Louise Brown Henry; two daughters, Peggy (Lawrence) Henry Jean-Batiste of New Iberia, LA and Beverly Henry Hall of Stockton, CA. Eight grandchildren: Dr. Sheara Williams of Manvel, TX; Ronald(Pamela) Alexander Jr., of New Iberia, LA; Tangela Hall and Arliss Hall of Stockton, CA; Karen Bennett of New Iberia, LA Denesha Gregoire of Atlanta, GA; Kyhemia (Francine) Alexander of Gonzales, LA; and Delores(Falando) Simon of Lake Charles, LA. He will also be missed by thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

He now joins in his heavenly home: his parents, Henderson and Mary Lula Lewis Henry; one daughter, Bernadette Henry Alexander Bartie and one sister, Mildred Broussard.

The family wishes to extend a very special thanks to special friends, companions and caregivers Jamie Lombard-Bawa and Mageline Dauphine for the special attention shown to Mr. Henry. The family would also like to thank the Iberia Council on Aging and Hospice Compassus for the care they provided Mr. Louis Henry.

Serving as pallbearers are: Ronald Alexander Sr., Samuel Alexander, members of the Knights of Peter Claver Council #63 and members of the American Legion Post # 533.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Ronald Alexander Jr., Kyhemia Alexander, Lawrence Jean-Batiste, Demetrius Travis and Jammall Hurst.
